The “job search” seems to have ended in a mystery job. Mystery to me, at least, but it is vague to Burt as well. He wants me to get him business cards (albeit they’re round, as he describes them). He assigns numbers to his staff, and I am #1 tomorrow, then #2 the next day,Continue reading “Burt’s on top of it”

Going Up
Burt is cognitively more engaged these last couple of weeks. The rescheduled morning meds might be partially responsible. Of course, I am grading on a curve. Burt’s daughter asked me about the multiple wives over the weekend. This reminded me that it appeared that he recognized me more often. There are still occasions when heContinue reading “Going Up”
On Repeat
This is our life is getting to be a bit repetitious. We manufacture our own excitement when dealing with Lewy but there’s all that shucking and diving, ducking and jiving. And lots of calls to say again. On Saturday I ignored Burt who did not settle down again last night and listened to 2 ConanContinue reading “On Repeat”
A problem in the making?
It’s very likely that this hat rack arrangement will lose its utility soon. It is a convenience, but for Burt, it has become an issue. I knew it might be. He has begun humanizing animation on the TV and identifying with cars on the traffic cam station (FIOS 28). The other day, he asked whoContinue reading “A problem in the making?”
One thing
It’s never just one thing. We are all of us, those afflicted with Lewy, those caring for them, those without a care in the world, complex human beings. My honey’s fractured brain sees the fractures and dichotomies. He splits them up, breaks us into compartments of good and bad, nice and not nice. For him,Continue reading “One thing”
After his fall
Burt is a recoverer by nature and determination. It’s 11 days since he bruised his knee, and here he is getting approved to go out walking again. Not only that, he’s not screaming in pain over it. In fact, he’s blaming the other leg. How’s he doing? Doing well.
In free fall
This is a horrid disease. I believe all dementias are damnable and heartbreaking. Lewy, however, seems to offer behavioral twists and emotional wrenches that make it that much more accursed. So, while all dementias are a burden on sufferer and carer, this is the one we’ve got. Burt has quirks that predate his illness. HeContinue reading “In free fall”
Perplexing
T-shirts with slogans have sprung up to agitate my Burt. It seems to have originated with a recently acquired resentment of my gym. I love my logoed gear! Burt told me a wild story about a woman (they always look just like me) who was wearing the shirt (he ran his fingers over the writingContinue reading “Perplexing”
Doubts
Burt’s asking me who I am is creating a fault line in my self- confidence. I mean, I am still pretty sure who I am. Just not always sure who he thinks I am. When it was clear, for instance, that his pushy wife was becoming a pain, I was able to own up. IContinue reading “Doubts”
Abbrev
In caregiving circles, there are lots of shortcuts by which we communicate. This is not a glossary, just some abbreviations that come to mind: We never seem to shorten (seems right as the work isn’t shortened) caregiver or caregiving. There are lots of symptoms that also maintain their long form. Reduplicative paranesia is a mouthfulContinue reading “Abbrev”
