In my widowhood, we are
Still a couple, a couple
One of whom has absented
Himself, you know who you
Are, we were two, and so
Close in everything we did,I am doing some of those
Things alone now. I am a
Widow, without that guy I
Miss, when will I, will I be
Just me alone, doing the
Things we, a couple, had
Done, […]
Together. Alone.
Immediately after writing this query into life after Burt’s death and a declaration of a new independence, I went to get a flu shot.
It stung, and I thought, on the verge of telling the nurse, that the sting would be satisfying to Burt, who liked the proof that he’d gotten the vaccine. It’s very hard keeping my experience just to myself alone.
